Valentine’s Day is one of my all-time favorite holidays. Rather than going the traditional route with heart-shaped chocolates, dozens of roses, and a candlelit dinner for two… I celebrate with my entire family.

This Valentine’s Day Sensory Bin is one way that I’m making V-Day fun and thematic for my youngest!

How To Make a Valentine’s Day Sensory Bin

This Valentine’s Day Sensory Bin is really easy to put together but gives the younger kiddos something thematic to play with during the most romantic time of the year!

What You Need:

Here’s what you’ll need from the store. The exact amounts are in the printable craft card at the bottom of this post.

Supplies Needed:

Small plastic bin
Short cut pasta (penne, elbow macaroni, farfalle, shells etc.)
Felt heart cutouts
Heart-shaped erasers
Heart-shaped notebooks

Feel Free To Use Different-Sized Bins

For our Valentine’s Day Sensory Bin, I opted for a small, plastic bin with a lid. This would make it easy to transport (especially to grandma’s house, where we were headed for this year’s Valentine celebrations!), but you can also use larger bins if you want to add in more pasta and toys. Also, we like to use baking pans. They work great for sensory bins, too!

Are There Any Craft Supply Alternatives?

Absolutely! You can use rice instead of pasta for this sensory bin. If you want things to get a little messy (But the fun kind of messy!) then feel free to make fake snow for your sensory bin, much like how we did in this sensory bin project.

It’s Like a Valentine’s Day Gift for Your Little Ones

This Valentine-themed sensory bin doubles as a VDay gift for your kids. I love filling the bin with Valentine toys so that when they open up them, they have gifts to celebrate! It doubles as a treat and a fun sensory activity.

Start With the Pasta

Start with adding the pasta into your plastic bin, followed by one heart-shaped element. Mix them together so that not everything sits on top of your pasta – this way, your kiddos will have more of a challenge finding their heart-shaped goodies.

What’s the Benefit of Sensory Bin Play?

Sensory bins give your children a chance to explore through hands-on sensory learning. Plus, it provides hours of fun and you can get very creative with the different items you use for your bins.

Ingredients

1 plastic bin
5 cups short pasta
10 heart-shaped erasers
Heart-shaped felt cutouts
5 heart-shaped miniature notebooks

Instructions

Add pasta into a plastic bin, followed by the erasers. Mix both together so that the erasers do not sit on the top of the pasta: this will make it more of a challenge for your little ones to find their Valentine-themed goodies.
Add remaining heart-shaped items and have fun!
